Cup Report

With only four matches to be decided in the Preliminary Round of the Presidents Cup, there wasn't much room for excitement - or so you'd have thought.

Beacon 1 upset the odds with a 4-1 win away at the Roadies while the Division 1 outfit Axe & Square 2 squeezed a surprisingly narrow 3-2 win at the newly formed Birch Tree 3.

Blaby Foxes had a routine 4-1 win at the Ratby Rogues but it was different story at the notoriously tricky Countesthorpe piste as, before they could settle, the Bulls Head 2 team of young guns lost both triples to the Axe Gladerunners.

So it was do-or-die in the doubles and it wasn't long before the visitors brought the match to all square in convincing fashion. In a nail-biting decider the Bulls Head team took and then squandered a commanding lead but eventually edged the game and a famous win
