Presidents Cup Report

Boing! Boing!

The season came to life last night with the preliminary round of the Presidents Cup. Baggies grabbed the headlines by ambushing league champions Thurmaston 1 in their own backyard. With a boing, boing here and a woop, woop there, memories of their clean sweep in 2011 came to life. But weary pundits have not rushed into the market, wary of the league front runners Plough Inn 2 and Leicester Wanderers lying in wait with Cup holders Keyham 1, who did just enough at the Axe

Raining cats

New boys Kings Arms 3 made light work of Thurmaston 3 while third tier Beacon 1 were true to their league form, blowing Division 2's Nags Head Lions clean out of the water ... literally. On a bad night for cats, Blaby Tigers failed to roar against a lively Glenhills 1 and the Rutland Panthers only just squeaked through at Coleorton, courtesy of some novice pointing to savour. The Division 4 hopefuls from Asfordby had their chips in a reality check at the Malt Shovel and Queniborough Spartans get a chance to bring the new campaign to life with a fortuitous walkover

Road to nowhere?

The draw for the first round 'proper' keeps most of the Division 1 teams apart but no-one will envy the Roadies' task at South Luffenham in the stand-out fixture
